Canine and Feline Orthopedics Fellowship (CFO)
Advanced Orthopedic Expertise: Canine and Feline Orthopedics (CFO) Fellowship
At OC-LA Mobile Surgery, we are committed to delivering the highest standard of orthopedic care for dogs and cats. As a Founding Fellow in the Canine & Feline Orthopedics (CFO) Fellowship program offered by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP), I bring advanced, specialized training to every case. This prestigious fellowship is designed for ABVP Diplomates in Canine & Feline or Feline Practice, providing in-depth expertise in the technically challenging field of orthopedic surgery. It addresses the unique needs of pets with orthopedic issues, from accurate diagnosis and innovative treatments to comprehensive post-surgical rehabilitation, ensuring better outcomes and faster recoveries for your beloved companions.
Why the CFO Fellowship Matters for Your Pet’s Care
Orthopedic conditions in dogs and cats—such as fractures, joint diseases, and ligament injuries—require precise skills that go beyond general veterinary training. The CFO Fellowship was created to bridge this gap, empowering veterinarians like me with species-specific knowledge to handle complex cases effectively. For referring veterinary clinics, this means reliable collaboration on advanced procedures, reducing risks and enhancing patient results. For pet owners, it translates to peace of mind knowing your furry family member is in the hands of a professional with proven, elite-level proficiency.
Program Highlights and Requirements
To enter the CFO Fellowship, participants must first achieve ABVP Diplomate status in Canine & Feline or Feline specialties, pay a nominal application fee, and complete initial hands-on orthopedic continuing education. The curriculum is rigorous and comprehensive, including:
• Weekly didactic and web-based sessions (3-4 hours) on essential orthopedic topics, with quizzes meeting RACE standards for quality assurance.
• Hands-on mentoring from experienced specialists.
• Detailed case documentation, presentations, and summary reports.
• Mandatory external continuing education to stay at the forefront of the field.
Completion must occur within 36 months, with requirements like maintaining ABVP good standing, passing all evaluations (quizzes, case reviews, presentations), and acing a final exam. This structured approach ensures fellows are equipped to provide exceptional, evidence-based care.
Proud to Be a Founding Fellow
I am honored to be recognized as a Founding Fellow in the CFO Fellowship, joining esteemed colleagues such as:
• Daniel Cardosa, Jr., DVM, PhD, DABVP (Canine & Feline Practice)
• Michael Dutton, DVM, MS, DABVP (Avian Practice, Canine & Feline Practice, Exotic Companion Mammal Practice, Reptile & Amphibian Practice), CVPP, CertAqV and others.
This distinction underscores my dedication to advancing veterinary orthopedics and improving lives—one pet at a time.
